Yoyo culture has grown into a form of performance art with its own global, underground following. It is tight-knit, creative, and constantly evolving.
Like any real subculture, it has developed a visual identity of its own. Distressed oversized fits, sneakers and custom made pieces have become part of the look. Fashion has always been present in the scene, but it hasn’t always been acknowledged.
This collaboration is a way of shifting that perspective, showing that yoyo culture has a place in the world of contemporary streetwear.
We teamed up with an emerging yoyo brand out of Malaysia called "Alternatives" to bring this collaboration to life.
This project aims to not only highlight the fashion side of the yoyo community, but also the small, tight-knit community behind the scene.
Contemporary yoyoing today isn’t what it was back in the days. It’s grown technically, visually, and culturally.
What Alternatives has done with modern yoyo design mirrors what Overshade stands for in fashion. Both brands challenge convention and speak to niche communities.
This project was born from mutual respect and the desire to design a product that visually captures what both cultures embody.
